love yourself

In a world that continues to define a person by the number of likes on a picture or the number of shares and followers, it has become increasingly hard to accept and love yourself. We live in a world that places priority on a person's theme rather than their self-esteem and value. And this is a problem in pretty much everyone in our society. There was a time where I also placed my self-worth on the number of followers, likes and comments I had and I continuously compared myself to people I would see while scrolling through my feed. During this time I had a large amount of toxicity within myself and this created toxic relationships with my friends and family and stopped me from pursuing things that I dreamed about because I felt like compared to these people, I was nothing. But then I went through a journey of self-discovery and nurturing. I know that sounds awfully wishy-washy and off-putting, but let me tell you, it doesn't have to be. Because this journey is yours, you ge...

book review

Since You've Been Gone:

"Emily's best friend Sloane disappears,
almost without a trace-the only thing left behind is a to-do list.
On it, thirteen Sloane-inspire tasks that wallflower Emily wouldn't normally do,
and definitely not without her best friend.
But what if completing the list could bring Sloane back?

DANCE UNTIL DAWN
Sure. Why not?

KISS A STRANGER
Umm...

GO SKINNY DIPPING
Wait...what?

Emily only has the summer to check everything off Sloane's list.
The question is, what will she find at the end of it?"

When I picked this up at the bookstore I wasn't sure. Would it be cliche and cheesy? Or would it be the perfect mix of awkwardness and teenage angst? Well, the answer is: I will continue to re-read this until the pages literally fall apart. Emily (the main character) is a wallflower, but not the kind of perfect, manic pixie dream girl wallflower. But a literal representation of the majority of teenage girls, including me.

She lets moments slide out of social awkwardness and self-doubt, and she feels uncomfortable in extremely social situations. She's even extremely quiet around everyone except her one friend, Sloane. And although she does end up having the perfect summer, (something that I will never in a million years achieve) she is still someone that I can relate to. And let's face it, in a book that's all you want.

The thing I also love about books is their ability to transport you elsewhere. And Since You've Been Gone does that perfectly. The way it is written allows the reader (me and hopefully you) to follow Emily and be a part of her adventures.  It makes you feel like you are right there beside her, the wind in your hair and the sun on your face.

Overall I would give this book 4 & 1/2 stars and I recommend this read to anyone who enjoys chick lit, a tad of romance and teen fiction.

Hope you enjoyed x
